In 1998 the statue of Nero was unveiled.

The adventures of Nero & Co is a comic strip series by the Flemish comic strip author Marc Sleen, which appeared from 1951 to 2002 in Flemish newspapers, virtually uninterrupted. The main character Nero, however, already participated in the comic series' The Adventures of Detective Van Zwam 'since 1947. The character of Nero took over the central role of Detective Van Zwam and after nine stories the series is renamed in' The Adventures of Nero and his hat'. After two stories the comic got its current name: 'The Adventures of Nero and Co'. Like Marc Sleens, other comics, Nero is a humorous series full of boobs, absurd jokes and anti-heroes with recognizable human flaws. What makes Nero unique in comparison with other Flemish and even Belgian comic strips are the various references to current events when the stories appeared in the newspaper. The comic strip always closes with a traditional waffle tray.
